Don’t waste time learning the tricks of the trade, learn the trade instead: Everyone always wants to take the easy way out of everything these days, but it’s those that actually devote themselves to a task that will actually succeed. When you take time to educate yourself and actually learn something you become a better person. If you’re a salesperson don’t bother figuring out how to get someone to buy something they don’t want, instead really learn about how you can help them. If you are artisan don’t make something that will hold up long enough to get home, but instead something that can be passed on from one generation to the next. Don’t fix something just to the point that it will get you another call in six months, but one that will get you ten more customers. Cutting corners only ensures you a tarnished reputation and in some cases really puts people at risk. Instead, devote your life to being the best at whatever you do so that everyone that meets you or sees your work will know it was done by a professional and will be eager to sing your praises to all those around them. I guarantee you get a lot more business and keep a lot more friends.
